Gracie Self-defense
Gracie Self-Defense is a style of combat that emphasizes real-world situations. Created by Grandmaster Helio Gracie, the Gracie Self-Defense curriculum is comprised of five fundamental components; stand-up self-defense, striking, throwing and take-downs, groundwork, and philosophy. The goal of this program is to prepare each student, regardless of athletic ability, to diffuse potential confrontations on the street using leverage and control positions.
Fundamentals of Ground Control
Focusing on the main positions and basic techniques of ground fighting, this class is designed as an intermediary between Self Defense and Advanced Jiu Jitsu. It will follow the same curriculum path as the advanced classes with more focus on the core principles of each position and reinforcing basic concepts through repeated drilling.
Advanced Jiu-Jitsu
Advanced Jiu-Jitsu classes focus on sport jiu-jitsu. These classes are designed to teach competition techniques and are open to all students. We offer both gi and no-gi classes.
Youth Program
The future of Chapel Hill Gracie Jiu Jitsu is bright! Our youth program focuses on developing positive character traits, creating physically fit children, and giving them the tools to successfully defend themselves in a real world violent encounter.
Our Jiu Jitsu classes are divided into two age groups. Bully Awareness classes are for youth ages 4-7 and the Youth Jiu Jitsu classes are designed for ages 8-15.
Private Lessons
Private instruction is available upon request. Contact us for more details.
Rolling
The end of each jiu-jitsu class is dedicated to live grappling. This provides the opportunity to practice techniques in a controlled environment so each student can feel confident in the street or in a competition.
Striking for jiu-jitsu
Because striking is one of the fundamental components of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, we believe that each student should familiarize themselves with the fundamentals of punching and kicking. Our Striking for Jiu-Jitsu classes emphasize distance-management and set-ups for takedowns.
Wrestling
Taught by wrestling coach and jiu jitsu black belt Jonah Hill, our wrestling program seeks to improve take downs, take down defense, and the scramble. Utilizing traditional wrestling drills and techniques we hope to improve the explosiveness and effectiveness of our jiu jitsu.
